Donald R. Young

Anderson - Donald R. Young, 63, Anderson, died September 27, 2006 at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born May 23, 1943 in Middletown, Ohio, and resided in Anderson, Indiana for over 50 years. He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 36 years of service. Donald was a member of South Meridian Church of God. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather. He was a member of the UAW Local #662. At one time in the 1960's he was Union Secretary. He worked at the Democratic Headquarters for Sheriff Terry Richwine and traveled several places which included South America, Bahamas, Cruises, White Water Rapids in Colorado and much more. He drove the 1972 Dragmaster Slingshot Rail, one of the fastest front engine dragsters in Indiana. He raced at the Muncie Dragstrip and also owned Black Widow Racing, where his son, Robert Young was the driver of Cherokee Demon and his grandson, Jerry Lee Strunk II was the driver of the Junior Dragster. He was a member of the Junior Drag Racing Team. Donald was president of Motto Mountain BMX Track in Chesterfield. He is survived by his children: Lori & husband Jim Rhea of Anderson and Robert ''Robbie'' Young of Anderson. Siblings: Joyce & husband Elbert Tannreuther of Ohio, Dick & wife Janice Young of North Carolina, Tommy & wife Becky Young of North Carolina, Carol & husband Tom Matakas of Kansas, EvaJo & husband Jack Rubin of South Carolina, Susan & husband Kenny Hall of Ohio and Cynthia & husband Ken Olsen of Indianapolis. Six Grandchildren: Jerry Lee Strunk II, Chase K. Strunk, Private Lucas P. Ponsler, Brooke A. Young, James M. Young and Dillion R. Young. Special Friend: Charme Pettigrew. He was preceded in death by his parents: Madison ''Red'' & Florence Highland Young. Brother: James Neal Young. Aunt: Millie Eva Mullen. Services will be Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 10:00 AM, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel; 200 W. 53rd Street; Anderson, with Pastor Bill Hilligoss officiating. Burial will be in Grovelawn Cemetery, Pendleton.
