Lawrence J. "Larry" Vores

Lawrence J. "Larry" Vores, 74, of Anderson, passed away peacefully at his residence on September 26, 2022. He was born on June 2, 1948, in Anderson, Indiana, where he resided all of his life. Larry was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a 1966 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. Larry served his country (1967-1968) during the Vietnam War with the 1st Infantry Division, Big Red 1, and received two Bronze Service Stars. He spent his life from a very young age working in the grocery business and after managing an independent grocery store for 16 years, Larry and his wife, Sondra, bought their first store in 1976, founding Harvest Supermarkets. He since opened many other locations and in 1991, began also doing business as Tops Home Centers. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, and garden. He was a strong supporter of Pheasants Forever and nature preservation. Larry was humble, hardworking, honest and loyal to everyone who knew him. He was a soft-spoken man with unwavering love and commitment to his family, community, and country. He will be dearly missed. Larry is survived by his loving children, Joseph Vores and Allison Vores (Brian Patterson); and grandchildren, Zachary Vores and Lyla Redmond. Also, surviving are his siblings, Chuck (Dottie) Vores, Nancy (Ron) Bollman, Nick Vores, Margie (Dave) Irwin, and Patty (Mark) Hughes; brother-in-law, Ron (Julie) Russell; sister-in-law, Sherry Cox, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra Vores; parents, Allison and Imelda Vores; siblings, Tim Vores and Amy Sczesny; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Kenneth Russell, brother-in-law, Daryl Cox; and nephew, Ed Bollman. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street Anderson, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 3, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson with Rev. Matthew Jakupco officiating.
