Fred Collins

Fred Collins, 68, of Middletown, passed away November 22, 2020, at home after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born September 16, 1952, in Anderson, Indiana, to the late James "Bud" and Helen Collins. Fred graduated from Anderson High School in 1970, and from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in US History. He retired from Delphi in 2006 after 35 years of service, and was the owner/operator of Middletown Self Storage. He loved to travel, having been on a dozen cruises from Alaska to Hawaii and the Caribbean. His true love was the summer cottage on Carp Lake in Michigan that his parents owned for 60 plus years. He loved spending time there with his family and growing up at "The Lake". Fred was a very unique, kind, polite, compassionate and generous gentleman in every sense of the word. He lived and died a gentleman. He was an old soul who led a very simple life. He was sentimental and rarely threw anything away. He relished his photographs, old and new, and created many photo albums. He loved old gospel music and antiques, mowing his homestead of two acres, and that's where you could usually find Fred, on his lawnmower. He loved his church family at the New Horizons United Methodist Church where he helped with various dinners, fish fries, and helped count the offering on Sundays. Fred was even known to bake cakes for the above events, especially pineapple upside down cakes. Fred is survived by his loving brothers, William (Susan) Collins and Ron (Becky) Collins; special cousins, Joyce E. (Dick) Caldwell and Robert Collins; and special nieces and nephews, Cammie (Aaron) Junkersfeld, Betsy Lehnen, Mark Collins, Kim Bigam, Amy (David) Hitchcock, and Hope Lariviere. He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Helen Collins; aunt, Hazel Porter; and sister-in-law, Susan Collins. The family wishes to thank Melissa Breckenridge, his caregiver, who took wonderful care of him, as well as Premier Hospice. Visitation will be held Monday at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St. Anderson, IN. Services will be Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Barrington officiating. Burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery, Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to New Horizons United Methodist Church in Anderson. www.loosecares.com.
