JoAnne Sunderman

JoAnne Sunderman, 76, of Anderson, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Countryside Manor. Jo was born on February 3, 1938 at St. John's Hospital in Anderson to Rex Eugene and Margaret Kathleen (Rasener) Roberts and lived in Anderson most of her life. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1956, Indiana Business College, and Ball State University (Magna Cum Laude). Jo worked in the real estate industry for Herman Brown realtors, developed Meadowbrook Manor Condominiums for the South Anderson Corp., developed Phase 2 of Hollywood Estates for General Metro Group, and was self-employed in accounting for several small businesses. She had a brief career in Social Work, retiring in 1998. She was a long-time member of Bethany Christian Church. JoAnne is survived by her children, Kelli Jo Crandall (Mitch Bennett) of Anderson, Julie Ann Gerhardt (Ken) of Noblesville, and Ryan Andrew Sunderman (Tammy) of Fishers; grandchildren, Derek Crandall, Brittani Mort (Rich), Breanne Lewis, Jenna and Jake Gerhardt, and Griffin Sunderman; great-grandchildren, Brynnan, Delaney Jo, and Tinsley Mort, and former son-in-law, David M. Crandall. In addition, she is survived by three loving and supportive sisters: Janet St. Clair of Anderson, Jenny Wilson (Jim) of Nashville, TN and Georgia Roberts of Anderson; seven nieces: Brenda Roberts Milligan, Dee Roberts Johns, Laura Roberts McCord, Tracy Roberts Clark, Kim Tappan McClain, Kristan Tappan Mashburn, Kerri Jo Tappan Egbert and one nephew, Mike Roberts. Several close friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Mel Sunderman in 1991; her parents, Rex and Marie Roberts and Margaret and Harold Harrington, brothers, Stephen D. and Richard L. Roberts, nephew, Rick Lee Roberts and her much loved grandmother, "Mamaw" Bertha Thomas Roberts Alexander, who helped raise her. A creative woman, Jo was ahead of her time in many ways. She loved genealogy, antiques, reading, watching birds, and was a lifelong learner who was never afraid of change. She met every challenge head-on and was successful. She will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital, the Bennett Rehabilitation Unit at St. Vincent Anderson, Countryside Manor and St. Vincent Anderson Hospice for their care and support during Jo's illness. Visitation will be held from 4-6pm, December 2, 2014 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, IN 46013.
