Mary L. Quarles Thomas

Mary L Quarles. Thomas, 86, after a long illness, is now with the Heavenly Angels and singing God's praises. She passed away on December 1, 2013 at the Heartland Florida Hospital, Sebring, FL. She was the middle child of five brothers and sisters born to John and Kate Quarles on Christmas Day, December 25, 1926 in Elwood, Indiana, and graduated from Wendell Wilke High School in 1944. She was an original "Rosie the Riveter" working at Guide Lamp Division of General Motors until retiring in 1978. Mary and her husband, Tommy, then moved to Lake Placid, FL to enjoy their retirement years. Mary shared her love of God and Christian beliefs through the churches and organizations in which she actively participated throughout her life. Mary's last church was Pendleton First United Methodist Church where she continued to share God's love. Mary is survived by her daughters, Dr. Linda Chuck Runyon and Kathy Barber; granddaughters, Andi Scott Canaday, Pennylane Augustine Lara, Kelcy Scott, Brandy Dustin Cabe and Tara Barber; great-grandchildren, Tyler Runyon, Alex and Adam Canaday, Sebastian and Christian Lara, Carter and Caden Scott and Victoria Cabe; brothers, Donald Kathy Quarles and Merrill Mara-Le Quarles; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas C. Thomas, Jr.; son-in-law, Dennis Barber; and parents, John and Kate Horner Quarles; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis Quarles and Jesse Budd; and brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Wilma Jean Ryan Quarles. Visitation will be held Friday, December 06, 2013 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, Indiana. Services will be Saturday, December 7, 2013, 11:00 am at Pendleton First United Methodist Church, 225 West State Street, Pendleton, IN 46064, with visitation one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Anderson Memorial Park; she may now rest in peace knowing that her work here on earth is done. Mary will forever be remembered for her strong faith and love of family. We will miss her greatly, but we know she is spending eternity with Christ our Lord.
