Maxine Hofer

Houston, TX - Maxine Hert Hofer, 84, of Houston, died July 14, 2004 at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born March 3, 1920 in Greene County, Indiana, the daughter of Herschel Charles Hert and Ruth Charity Brandon Hert. She was a resident of Anderson from 1934 to 1984 and had resided in Houston since 1984. She served as the food service manager for the Lapel School System, later known as the West Central Community School District from 1966 to 1978. She was also formerly employed by the Anderson Community Schools, the Anderson Township school system, Linder's Restaurant, Anderson Country Club, Delco Remy Division of General Motors Corporation, Pierce Governor Company and the Paramount Potato Chip Company. She was a 1937 graduate of Anderson High School She was a member of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Samuel Sorrell Chapter, Houston, Texas, and the Jamestowne Society, the latter organization being a group whose members can trace their ancestors to Jamestown, Virginia, the first permanent English-speaking settlement in North America. Mrs. Hofer is survived by her one daughter, Stephanie A. Keesling of Houston, Texas; two sons, Stephen R. Hofer of Los Angeles, California and Harry G. Schoger Jr. of Cortland, Ohio; one son-in-law, James M. Keesling of Houston, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Cheryl A. Hofer of Los Angeles, California and Eleanor K. Schoger of Cortland, Ohio; one brother, Richard H. White of Krum, Texas; one stepsister, Mrs. Richard Frances Cooley of Wethersfield, Connecticut; five grandchildren, Victoria Sloane Hofer and Morgan BrynRose Hofer, both of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Henry Elizabeth Miles of North Canton, Ohio, Matthias D. Schoger of Clear Lake, Texas and John B. Schoger of Worthington, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren, Lauren P. Schoger and Molly B. Schoger of Clear Lake, Texas; Alyssa G. Miles and Matthias G. Miles of North Canton, Ohio; and Thomas M. Schoger of Worthington, Ohio. She was preceded by her husband, Robert E. Hofer, whom she married March 29, 1947 in Muncie, Indiana: and who passed away August 4, 1993; five sisters, Mrs. Richard Georganna Garrett in 2002, Mrs. Calvin Ruth Billett in 2000, Mrs. Glenn Wilma Pruitt in 1993, Mrs. Malcolm Juanita Ballinger in 1956 and Charity Hert in 1923; and two brothers, Thomas J. Hert in 1998 and Charles Brandon Hert in 1990. Services will be Monday, July 19, 2004 at 11:30 AM, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel; 200 W. 53rd Street; Anderson, with the Rev. Paul Wohlford officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson.
