Richard L. Sprague

Richard L. “Dick” Sprague, 87, passed away May 8, 2015, at Fall Creek Retirement Village, Pendleton, after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Anderson, the son of James W. Sprague and Madge M. (Taylor) Sprague, and lived in the Anderson and Frankton areas for most of his lifetime. Dick was a 1945 graduate of Anderson High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1953 and his Masters degree in Physics from Ball State University in 1967. He worked for Delco Remy for 33 years and received several patents for his work while there. After retiring from Delco Remy in 1986, he taught electrical engineering classes for Purdue Technology (Anderson University Campus) for six years. Dick was a longtime member of East Lynn Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Anderson where he held many offices including trustee. He was a Sunday school teacher at East Lynn for 46 years. He was also a member, and past president, of the Anderson Breakfast Optimist Club. Dick enjoyed playing golf and attending Purdue football games with his wife, Carrel. He was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Pam Fattic of Pendleton and Timmi Sprague of Anderson; one son, Rick (Beverly) Sprague of Anderson; five grandchildren: Josh (Lisa) Sprague, Kim (Matt) Smith, Casey (Mark) Kapoor, Teresa (Deon) Lindsey, and Jodie (Michael) Quirk; 14 great-grandchildren: Dylan, Cody, Kurtis, Bianca, Christian, Caden, Caeleb, Cordell, Mya, Cooper, Heath, Taylor, Evan and Ryan; one sister, Lorna (Gary) Zeck of Louisville, KY.; two sisters-in-law: Helen Sprague of Phoenix, AZ, and Yvonne Sprague of Corona, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Carrel (Jones) Sprague, to whom he was married for 63 years; his parents; and brothers, James, Joe and Phil Sprague. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. at East Lynn Christian Church, 522. E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to East Lynn Christian Church.
