Ruth Shinness-Brinduse

Ruth Shinness-Brinduse, 96, Anderson, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at Rawlins House & Fall Creek Retirement Village, Pendleton, Indiana. She was born June 3, 1930, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She briefly attended the University of North Dakota but chose a different path when that World War II veteran, David Lester “Les” Shinness, proposed. They shared a mutual love for Jesus Christ and had many happy and fulfilling years together writing songs, engaging in Bible study, and ministering to countless folks who came to them for prayer and counsel. In her later years Ruth was the founder of Prayer Strategy Ministry as well as an author and speaker. Her love for reaching the nations for Christ led her to preach the Gospel in Kenya, Nigeria, Lagos, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, India, and Scotland, among others. The purpose of these travels was to share strategies of prayer she learned while going through a difficult season in her life. After Les’s passing, Ruth married Daniel “Dan” Brinduse, mutually enjoying 15 years traveling on mission trips across America and overseas, sharing about prayer. This was a highlight of Ruth’s life. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Marguerite (Brueckner) Rodgers, first husband Les Shinness, second husband Dan Brinduse, her son Tom Shinness, and her siblings Thomas Rodgers, Miriam Dilatush, and Marguerite Pierce (Ruth’s twin sister). Survivors include her children David Shinness (Alynne), Roger Shinness, Molly Estabrook, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and step-children Carol Grace and Jerry Brinduse. Also surviving are special local friends Pat Shinness, Blanca Humphries, Cheryl Sink, Pastor Johnny Cawthon, as well as her special caretaker, grandson Stephen Estabrook. The family would like to thank Rawlins House for their loving and professional care of Ruth and the kindness they extended to her family in her final days. A visitation will be held at New Covenant Kingdom Ministries, 2277 N. Madison Avenue, Anderson, Indiana 46011 on August 2, 2026, at 3 pm with the memorial following at 4 pm.
