Selma L. Newby

Selma L. Newby 92 born aug 19, 1912 in Huntington, IN went home to be with the Lord Jan 22, 2005 as a result of a traffic accident. Selma married Richard F Newby on Sept, 20, !942. Richard passed in July of 1988. She received her Registered Nurse Degree in February of 1935. After serving her profession in many parts of the United States, Selma followed her husband in the military serving as a nurse to those needed help. She continued to do that the rest of her life. After Richard?s discharge from the Army, they returned to Anderson to raise their family of four children, twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. During her life in Anderson, she stayed active in the First United Methodist as well as her Alumini Association of nursing.. She was past Girl Scout leader of Troop 276, as well as guided three of her grandsons to becoming Eagle Scouts. Selma leaves behind her sister, Lois Buzzard of Sebring Florida; her four children, Duane Karen Newby of Anderson, Donna Bob Snyder of Greenville, Michigan, Dan Newby of Anderson, Deborah Les Jordan of Spenser; twenty grandchildren: Lisa Brian Petrick, Todd Shari Snyder, D. Chris Julie Newby, Lorie Paul Miller, Stephen Amanda Snyder, David Bobby Jo Snyder, David Melisa Wetnight, Kimberly Newby, Andrew Newby, Richard Newby, William Newby, Joseph Newby, Kurtis Newby, Becky Wetnight, Lois Snyder, Rachel Snyder, Bethany Snyder; eighteen great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in passing was her husband Richard F. Newby; parents Edgar & Barbara Dillon; her sister Eileen Dillon, and a grandson Daniel Snyder. Selma's family would like to extend a special thanks the staff of the ER, Dr Rashid and staff of the ICU as well as the nurses on the third floor of ST Johns Hospital for their loving care. Services will be at 11:30 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2005 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with Rev. Bill Mathys and Maynard Powell officiating. Family and friends will gather at Pilgrim?s Rest Cemetery in Huntington at 3:00 PM on Wednesday for committal. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Tuesday at the South Chapel.
