Vance C VanMatre

Vance C. VanMatre, 80, of Pendleton, passed away on May 11, 2016 at the Countryside Health and Living Community, Anderson. He was born on June 22, 1935 in Anderson, and resided most of his life in the Markleville/Pendleton area. On September 16, 1956, he married Laura Bell Larmore, and she preceded him in death on December 5, 2015. If they had both survived, they would be celebrating 60 years of marriage this year. He retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors in 1997 after 42 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 663. He was always eager to go to work, no matter what the weather. He hardly ever missed work for sickness. He enjoyed going out to eat, and keeping his large yard always looking it's best. After he went to live at Countryside Health and Living Community, he enjoyed playing Bingo and doing crafts. He enjoyed word search puzzles and reading. Vance is survived by his loving daughter, Alice Darlene (Gene) Best of Middletown, grandchildren, Dustin (Mika Shepherd) Best, Audra L. Best Wise, Jimmy Wise; great-grandchildren, Joey, Jaycie, Drew Best, and Aiden, Westyn and Ava West; siblings, Tiny (Lloyd) Eskew, David (Mary) VanMatre; sister-in-laws, Betty VanMatre, Barbara VanMatre, Diana VanMatre, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Crystal B. VanMatre, brothers, Sterling VanMatre, Elmer VanMatre, sisters, Cora Neidzweicki, Nancy Lemay, Pearl Owens; brothers-in-law, Lester Lemay, and Jim Owens; and his father and mother-in-law, Elijah and Mary Larmore. Vance's family wishes to thank all the past and present nurses and aides at Countryside Health and Living Community, for taking such good care of Vance during his stay there. Vance leaves many good friends at Countryside to cherish his memory. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, IN. Services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, May 16, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Walt Weaver Jr. officiating.
