Virginia Louise Green

With hearts full of gratitude and love, we celebrate the life of our devoted mother, grandmother, caregiver, and faithful servant of the Lord, Virginia Louise Green, who went Home to be with Jesus on April 10, 2026. She was born on April 16, 1934, in Grand Rapids, MN, where she grew up with her parents and 2 brothers. She attended nursing school in Duluth, MN, and met her husband, Larry Leon Green, a ministry student at Northwestern College in Minneapolis, in June, 1955. They were married 1 year later on June 23, 1956. After a 2-year commitment in the army, they established a home and family in Grand Rapids, MN, where they had 2 children, and she worked as a factory occupational nurse. The call to ministry continued for both of them as they sold everything and moved to Anderson, IN, in 1969, where Larry finished his professional ministry degrees, and she worked as Supervisor of Pediatrics at the Community Hospital. She worked as a registered nurse in various hospital-based roles throughout her career, and in retirement, led a parish nursing ministry at their church for several years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Thelma Erickson, her siblings, Robert (Bob) Erickson and Donald (Bud) Erickson, and her husband, Larry Green. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marisa Bernard (Ronald), her son, Scott Green (Rhonda), and her nephew, Del Erickson (Wenell), who lived with their family as a son/brother for many years. In addition, she is honored in memory by her 5 grandchildren - Alysa Villelli (Nick), Brittany Lang (Kevin), Chris Green, Laura Webb (Mason), and Joshua Bernard, and her 4 great grandchildren - Grace Green, Olivia Monro, Erickson, and Henry Villelli, in addition to many loved extended family members. She was a deeply beloved mother and grandmother who served her family with unwavering commitment and loyalty. Her life was marked by a spirit of giving, compassion, and steadfast faith. She faithfully served God in the church for many years as a pastor’s wife, youth leader, and gracious host who opened her home for countless gatherings with warmth and fellowship. Her heart for others extended well beyond her immediate circle, as she welcomed many who were struggling or without a place to live, offering not only shelter but love, dignity, and care. In later life, she hosted students from Africa who came to America to study, building caring relationships and ensuring they had a rich cultural experience. She had a passion for writing, kept a daily journal, composed many devotionals for her church, and authored a children’s book in honor of a family member. She also found joy in bowling, corresponding with pen pals, and creating lasting memories while vacationing with her family. Her adventurous spirit remained strong throughout her life, as she checked off bucket list experiences such as visiting Pearl Harbor, Israel, Africa, and India, in addition to zip-lining through the mountains of California in her 80s. She will be missed more than words can express. On behalf of her family, we are deeply grateful to have been blessed with such a loving, generous, and faithful mother. While our hearts feel the weight of her absence, they are also full as we rejoice in knowing she is now Home with Jesus. The family is planning an intimate celebration-of-life service in June, 2026.
