Betty J. Buckner

April 12, 1943 - May 13, 2022

Betty J. Buckner passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Friday, May 13, 2022. Betty was born April 12, 1943, in Monterey, Tennessee. Betty grew up in Monterey and attended Monterey High School until she met the love of her life, Grover L. Buckner. They were married on June 18, 1960. Grover and Betty had a long, wonderful marriage of 62 years. Betty was the proud mother to Cynthia (Cindy) and Cheryl and was a dedicated wife, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was a homemaker full-time while her daughters, Cynthia, and Cheryl, were small. When they entered middle school, Betty worked part-time as a lunch lady at a local middle school so she could be home when the girls got home from school. Betty was a dedicated employee for K Mart Departments Stores and Meijer Department Stores winning many Employee of the Year awards for her hard work and customer relations. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Oma Vaughn; brother, Arvin Vaughn (Jo Ann); sister, Theresa Vaughn. Brothers and Sisters-in-Law, Tom and Betty Buckner (both deceased) and Harold and Elsie Norrick (both deceased). She is survived by her loving husband, Grover L. Buckner; her daughters, Cynthia Young (Monty); Cheryl Fine (Mark); her grandsons Alex Young and Zach East. She is also survived by brothers, James D. Vaughn (Carol); Minnis Vaughn, Sr. (Ruth); William (Bud) Vaughn (Loretta); Donald Vaughn (Hazel). Sister-In-Law Anna Rohr; Brothers-in-Law M.C. Buckner (Naomi, deceased); Charles Buckner (Mary, deceased); Roy Buckner (Debbie), and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, IN, 46013. Services will be held on Thursday, at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery immediately following the service. Special thanks to Community Hospital, Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Facility (Chesterfield), and Compassus Hospice for their loving care over the last few months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Betty’s memory. www.loosecares.com.
