Chester (Chet) J. McCord, 100, passed away on August 19, 2021, at American Villages due to complications from Covid-19. Chet was born on March 18, 1921, in Hancock County, Indiana, and graduated from Fortville High School in 1939. He attended Indiana Business College and the IBM Schools of Indianapolis. Chet was a World War II Army veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart while serving in Europe. He retired from Delco-Remy, with 36 years seniority, as supervisor of data processing operations. He was a member of Whetstone Christian Church, Mount Moriah Lodge #77 F. & A. M., American Legion Post #127, and National Federated Craft #84. Chet also was a member of the International Society of Poets. He enjoyed playing his guitar, golfing, bowling, and his motorcycle rides. He also loved to read, write poems, shoot pool, and travel. Chet is survived by his two daughters, M. Sandra (David) Newman and Marcy (Roshier) Marchel, and his son, Mark (Barbara) McCord; step-children, Jerry (Charlotte) Bannon, Candace Wilde, and Neeca Harvey; grandchildren, Brian (Marth Clephane) Newman, Brenda (Rich Hulden) Newman, Brad (Suzanne) Newman, Robert Marshel, Daniel Marshel, Alan McCord, and April (Preston) Lawless; step-grandchildren, Adam (Lisa) Braden and Eben (Marianna) Braden. Also, surviving are 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and nephew, Tom (Connie) McCord. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary McCord; second wife, Martha Lou McCord; brother, Manford McCord; and granddaughter, Angela Marshel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St. Anderson, IN 46013. A Masonic service will follow visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will then be officiated by Rev. Stephen Gettinger. Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post #446. Memorial contributions may be made to Whetstone Christian Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
