John Robert Patrick Armington

June 16, 1936 - March 1, 2022

John Robert Patrick Armington, 85, of Pendleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on March 1, 2022. He was born on June 16, 1936, in Anderson, the son of Dr. Charles and Mary Armington. John graduated from St. Mary's High School in Anderson, and Marion College majoring in chemistry and a minor in physics and biology. He served his country in the United States Marines where he played on their baseball team when stationed in Hawaii. John was a co-owner of Rector-Armington Insurance Agency in Anderson. He also worked for JM McCormick in Indianapolis and retired from Carter Express. He was a parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, was an avid golfer and lifetime member of Anderson Country Club, and was a diehard Yankee and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. John was known for his sense of humor, generosity to all, and his unconditional love for his family. He is survived by his loving children, John (Julie) Armington, Megan (Tyler) Williams, and Christy (Dylan) Swindell; grandchildren, Haley (Cameron) Carlson, Whitney Armington, Jon Walker Armington, Fiona Williams, Elliott Williams, Nora Swindell, and Murphy Swindell; and great-grandchildren, Addyson Gillis and Jaxon Carlson. Also, surviving are his siblings, Sarah Johnson, Katy (Packy) Cunningham, Jerry Armington, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially the Hey Buddy Gang. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Charles Armington, Michael Armington, and Anne Decker Donaldson; cousin, Jerry Mahoney; and close friends; Richard Puckett, Steve Mustin, Frank Donaldson, Stan Shelton, and Jack Williams. Visitation will be held Monday, March 7, 2022, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 8, 2022, 11:00 am, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2801 Lincoln St., Anderson, IN, with Rev. Tom Metzger officiating. Burial of his remains will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church. www.loosecares.com.
