John P. Stewart

January 30, 1944 - June 9, 2022

John P. Stewart, 78, of Anderson, formerly of Pendleton, passed away on June 9, 2022. He was born on January 30, 1944, in Anderson, the son of Robert and Rena (Williams) Stewart. John graduated from Pendleton High School in 1962. He retired from Guide Lamp in 1998 after 34 years of service. Following retirement, John worked for Lowes, Pendleton True Value, was a security officer at St. John's Hospital, and was a school bus aide with South Madison Community School Corporation. John was one of the charter members of the Pendleton Emergency Ambulance. He was also the first reserve police officer for the Pendleton Police Department. He was a member of Pendleton Christian Church. John was also a member of Madison Masonic Lodge #44, Past Worthy Patron of the Pendleton Order of the Eastern Star #138, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, and was also a member of the Madison County Shrine Club. He had also been active with Job's Daughters and DeMolay. John was an avid NASCAR fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Opal Fisher. On June 27, 1964, he married Cathie (Fisher) Stewart at Chesterfield Christian Church (officiated by Rev. Pete Clark), and she survives. John is also survived by his children, Jeff (Donna) Stewart, Jim (Candy) Stewart, and Joyce (Paul) Prechtl; his grandchildren, Cain Harris (Lindsay Calderone), Collin Stewart (Hailie Klueg), Kaytlyn Harris, Kirsten Harris, Robin Harris (Kevin Miner), Christina (Travis) Dietz, Amanda (Brent) Shields, James (Alesha) Prechtl, and Abbie Prechtl; his great-grandchildren, Holly, Heidi, Cody, Jessica, Shelby, Korbin, Olivia, Vivianne, Kaden, Matthias, Treyson, and Thorsen; his brother, Mike (Cindy) Stewart; his niece, Laura (Brad) Hochstedler; and his nephew, Greg (Bryanna) Stewart. Visitation will be on Monday, June 13 from 2:00-7:00 P.M. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson, followed at 7:00 P.M. by services conducted by the Pendleton Order of the Eastern Star #138 and Madison Masonic Lodge #44.
