Edward Van Horn

Edward Van Horn, 88, went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2014 at his residence with his family around him. He was born on August 16, 1925 in Ashland, Kentucky, the son of Janie and Wallace F. Van Horn, and had been a resident of Anderson since 1954. Ed proudly served his country during World War II, 1943-1946 in the Army Air Corp. Among his numerous tours of duty, he served with the Red Raiders Unit in the Philippines. He graduated from Anderson College in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree and earned his Master's Degree at Ball State University and had worked toward his Doctorate Degree in Education. He was a teacher at Madison Heights High School from 1958-1987 in the English Department. He worked with his wife, Billie Arlene, in two home based businesses - Sassco Aloe Vera Products and New Image. He enjoyed working outside in the yard. He was an avid IU basketball fan, Colts football fan and Indianapolis Indians Baseball fan. He loved people and was always eager to help in any way needed. He also loved the Lord and his church.. He was a member of East Side Church of God and past member of the Lamplighter's Sunday School Class. He was also a past member of the Noon Lions Club. He will be missed by two close friends, Gorgee and Bo, the family dogs. He always thought of their needs before his. Ed's family would like to express much appreciation to his caring doctors and nurses, outstanding Hospice caregivers with St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital and for the many prayers by friends, family and the pastoral staff and members of East Side Church of God. Edward is survived by his daughter, Karen Ray Norrod of Anderson, IN, grandchildren, Shelbi Joey Stephenson of Noblesville, Greg Laura Norrod of Columbus, OH, Cheri Andre Moore of Indianapolis, Tami Dennis Lakey Norrod, seven great-grandchildren, siblings, Mary Kathryn Larry Morgan of West Chester, OH, Ralph Phyllis Van Horn of Fargo, ND, Richard Karen Van Horn of Louisa , KY, sister-in-law, Sandy Harry Van Horn of Ashland, KY, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Billie Arlene Terrill Van Horn, parents, Wallace Franklin and Janie Boggs Van Horn, siblings, Wallace Van Horn Jr. of Ashland, KY, Elmer Davis Dottie Van Horn of Orlando, FL, Harry Melton Van Horn of Ashland, KY, and Anna Louise Van Horn Kiser of Olive Hill, KY. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, Anderson, Indiana. Services will be Saturday, February 22, 2014, 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Dr. Kerry Robinson officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park with military rites by the VFW Post 266.
