G. F. "Jack" Crandall

G. F. "Jack" Crandall, 90, of Anderson, passed away on July 6, 2021. He was born on December 7, 1930, in Bloomington, Indiana, and resided most of his life in Anderson. Jack graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950. He was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and track. He qualified for the Indiana State Finals three years in a row for the high hurdles. Jack earned an athletic scholarship from Indiana University in both football and basketball. He withdrew from school after experiencing career-ending injuries. Jack was inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. He moved to Anderson in 1960, to open and operate Frisch's Big Boy downtown. Throughout his working career, he ran many restaurants including the Big Wheel in Munice and retired from Sysco Foods after several years of service. Jack was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, and help his family and neighbors. He served on the Edgewood Town Council and was responsible for the Parks Department. His creative garden designs can still be seen throughout Edgewood and his work is easily identified by his trademark, The Pot Man. He especially enjoyed decorating the park on SR 32 for Christmas. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Maxine (Jones) Crandall; sons, Steve (Amy) Crandall of Anderson and David Crandall of Pendleton; grandchildren, Derek Crandall, Brittani (Rich) Mort, Breanne Lewis, Tyler (Erin) Crandall, Katie (Cory) Powell, and Trent (Kristin) Crandall; and great-grandchildren, Brynnan Mort, Delaney Mort, Tinsley Mort, Nora Crandall, Hudson Powell, Eden Crandall, Blake Powell, and Ada Crandall. Also, surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annmarie Crandall; parents, G. F. and Kathryn E. (Burns) Crandall, Sr.; and siblings, Jane Lunsford, Bob Crandall, June Rife, and Dodie Bowman. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Wesley Free Methodist in Anderson, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 3:00 pm at the church.
