Nancy Hedgecraft

Nancy Hedgecraft, (Age 83), of Anderson, passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 15, 2024, at her home in Anderson. She was born August 31, 1940, to Henry (Hank) and Betty Gabel. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1958 and attended Ball State University, majoring in Business, until she was hired at Delco Remy in the Accounting Department. Nancy was in Salary Payroll when she retired in 1992. Her artistic talent reflected throughout her life. At the age of 16, she won the ‘Draw Me' contest featured in popular magazines. Art Institute officials, from New York, came to her house to award the scholarship. In later years, her talent led her to decorating cakes, which hundreds of people in Anderson have ordered, "Cakes by Nancy" for birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. Customers knew she could replicate, in icing, any picture they brought her. Scrapbooking became her next medium, and she became a professional scrapbooker, being featured in three different magazines during the years after she retired. Nancy is survived by her son, Richard (and wife Shilpa) Lewis, grandson, Omni Lewis, residing in Carlsbad, California; stepdaughter, April Hedgecraft (and fiancé Mark Gregory) living in Westfield, along with step-grandchildren, Khloe Miller and Kaden Miller. One niece that Nancy resumed the role of 2nd mother was Leigh Ann (and husband Ray) Hendrickson, from Arizona, and nephews, Jared Morell and Ryan Hendrickson, also from Arizona; sister-in-law, Pam (and husband Steve) Lackey, and several nieces and nephews related by marriage to her late husband. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Hedgecraft, whom she was married to for forty years, her parents, two older sisters, Mary Lou Claus, and Betty Jo Kolenda, and two sisters-in-law, Susan Collins, and Linda Kimbrell. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 11 am - 1 pm with funeral services starting at 1 pm. All services will be at Loose Funeral Home, 200 W. 53 St. Anderson, IN 46013.
